In its 80th meeting, it was decided that representatives from Muskaan, Traffic Police, RTO, JDA, and Nagar Nigam would jointly audit the 74 black spots identified by the Traffic Police and RTO. Muskaan visited each spot and provided relevant solutions to the Jaipur Development Authority.

Road Safety Audit of BRTS Jaipur

The introduction of the Bus Rapid Transit System (BRTS) was a major step toward addressing transportation demands. The first phase, a 7 km stretch with 22 bus stations, was completed in 2010. However, this corridor on Sikar Road has witnessed over 200 accidents and 50 deaths, underscoring the need for comprehensive safety interventions.

Muskaan has taken proactive steps to address these issues through a multi-faceted Road Safety Orientation Program. Awarded a project by the Jaipur Development Authority (JDA), Muskaan’s initiatives include:

  1. Education and Awareness:Conducting road safety workshops in educational institutions and factories.
  2. Engineering Coordination:Collaborating with authorities to rectify engineering faults.
  3. Enforcement Strengthening:Working with traffic police to enhance enforcement measures.
  4. Emergency Response:Partnering with hospitals and emergency services to build response capacity.

Key beneficiaries of these initiatives include youth, teachers, parents, drivers, and local communities. The project emphasizes the critical role of each stakeholder in fostering a culture of road safety, aiming for a 10% reduction in fatalities over a year. Through this holistic approach, Muskaan strives to make Jaipur an exemplary road-safe city.

Social Audit of RIICO Industrial Area Sanganer, Jaipur

Muskaan identified Sitapura Industrial Area for a pilot project due to its alarmingly high  road accident fatality rate, with 65 deaths in 2011-12 (Ministry of Road Transport & Highways). Target Area Highlights:

  1. Rural-Urban Setting:Spanning over two thousand acres.
  2. Hub of Activity:Home to 14 major industries and 16 colleges/universities.
  3. High Traffic:Over a lakh daily users, including industrial employees, students, and the public.
  4. Vulnerable Users:Many from nearby villages travel by cycles, mini-buses, and public transport.
  5. Accident Victims:Predominantly students using two-wheelers and public transport.

Sponsored by RIICO and implemented by Muskaan, the project focused on:

  • Correcting engineering faults.
  • Strengthening enforcement.
  • Enhancing emergency services.
